My Only Job Is To Be Honest To 140 Cr Indians: Gambhir Shuts Critics
Gambhir was criticised for picking far too many spinners in India’s Champions Trophy 2025 squad
Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir shut the critics down by saying that he doesn’t really care what they say of his team selection and playing approach as long as he is honest to himself, his players and most importantly 140 crore Indians.
“I don't care about it. I don't even care about it honestly,” Gambhir said of people criticising him initially for selecting too many spinners in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 squad.
Speaking in the post-match press conference after India’s four-wicket win against Australia in the semi-final, Gambhir added, “My job is to be honest to 140 crore Indians and to my players in the dressing room. I don't care what people say about it, how they talk about it, whether they've got agendas, whether they've not got agendas, I don't even care about it. If I'm honest to my job, that is all that matters and I can sleep in peace.”
Gambhir further said that despite not losing even a single game, the Indian team has not played the perfect game so far. And he hoped that the final on March 9 could be that game.
“We still haven't played a perfect game. We still have one more game to go. Hopefully we can play a perfect game. I will never be satisfied with the performances. We want to be ruthless on the cricket field but absolutely humble off the field,” Gambhir said.
