Mohit Sharma’s Single Reminded Me Of Makhaya Ntini In 438 Chase: Du Plessis

Mohit Sharma’s single enabled the set Ashutosh Sharma to hit a six and seal an epic win for Delhi

Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) played out one of the greatest IPL games in history at Vizag today, and Faf du Plessis couldn’t help but draw parallels to the epic ODI between Australia and South Africa in Johannesburg in 2006.

There, with South Africa still needing 2 runs to complete a record chase, the No.11 batter Makhaya Ntini took a single to bring the set Mark Boucher on strike. Boucher then hit a boundary to seal the chase.

Not too dissimilarly, today in Vizag, the No.11 batter Mohit Sharma’s single enabled the set Ashutosh Sharma to hit a six and seal an epic win for Delhi.

“It actually reminded me a bit of the 438 game when Makhaya Ntini had to get a single in the last over. That's probably the most important single in Mohit Sharma's life,” DC’s Faf du Plessis said after the clash.

Du Plessis admitted that, at one point, he thought the chase was ‘impossible’. DC lost three wickets inside 10 balls and the score was 65/5 when du Plessis perished in the 7th over.

“If you look at the wicket, the way the ball was gripping and we lost five wickets, I thought it was going to be impossible,” du Plessis said.

“But it shows what happens when you have an extra batter. It was amazing to watch just how these guys are so powerful and just hitting boundaries effortlessly.”
