Mark Wood Ruled Out Of Test Series Against India Following Operation

Wood will miss at least four months of action after an operation on his left knee

England cricket have been dealt with another blow, as speedster Mark Wood has been ruled out of the upcoming five-match Test series against India. Wood went down during England’s last group-stage game against Afghanistan in Champions Trophy 2025.

The 35-year-old underwent surgery in London, with ESPNCricinfo reporting that the scans confirmed medial ligament damage. During the clash against Afghanistan, Wood went off the field before returning to bowl four out of his remaining six overs but sported a heavily strapped left knee throughout.

"I'm gutted to be out for so long after representing England across all formats since the start of last year," said Wood in a statement released on March 13 (Thursday).

"But I've got every confidence that I'll be back firing on all cylinders now that I've been able to sort my knee out. I want to thank the surgeon, the doctors, the staff, my England teammates and coaches for their support - and, of course, our fans. I can't wait to get back and contribute to what is going to be a huge 2025 for us as a team."

Wood won’t return to action until July, with an eye on the Ashes tour Down Under later in the year.
