Warrican breaks Marshall and Roberts' records during shortest Test in Pakistan
His figures of 7/32 surpassed Marshall’s best of 5/33 achieved during the Lahore Test in 1986, which West Indies went on to win
Jomel Warrican, who took seven wickets in Pakistan’s second innings during the first match of the two-Test series at Multan Cricket Stadium in Multan on January 19 (Sunday), broke the record of West Indian greats Malcolm Marshall and Andy Roberts.
Warrican's figures of 7/32 surpassed Marshall’s best of 5/33 achieved during the Lahore Test in 1986, which West Indies went on to win. However, in the spinner's case, he finished on the losing side as the Men in Maroon trailed 0-1 in the series after a 127-run loss.
In total, Warrican took 10 wickets and thereby became the first West Indian with a 10-wicket haul in Pakistan. Before the left-arm spinner’s feat, the best match figures achieved by a West Indies bowler was 9/187 by Andy Roberts during the Lahore Test of 1975.
Thus, the 32-year-old left-arm spinner's figures of 10/101 is the best by a West Indian in a Test in Pakistan.
