Defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have been dealt a blow ahead of the new season as tearaway quick Umran Malik has been ruled out with injury. Umran was bought for his base price of INR 75 lakh at the mega auction but he will be taking no part in the forthcoming edition.
The Knight Riders have replaced the injured quick with left-arm pacer Chetan Sakariya.
Sakariya, who played a single ODI and two T20Is for India back in 2021, has only played five games across the last three IPL editions. But he is someone familiar with the KKR set-up as he was part of the title-winning side in IPL 2024. The 27-year-old was purchased for 50 lakh at the IPL 2024 auction by the Knight Riders.
Someone with 19 IPL appearances under his belt, Sakariya's last appearance in the competition came back in IPL 2023 for Delhi Capitals (DC) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK). There, he returned figures of 1/36 and took the wicket of Ruturaj Gaikwad.
