The Indian Premier League (IPL) has had quite a lot of unique records and one of them is famous players being unable to hit a fifty in this cash-rich league. With the new season of the IPL starting March 22, here's a look at three famous players who have so far been unable to score a fifty.
Ricky Ponting joined the IPL bandwagon in the inaugural season itself. But, even after playing two seasons with two different teams, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Mumbai Indians (MI), he was unfortunate not to get even a single fifty to his name. His highest score in his 10-match career remained 28.
Glenn Phillips, one of the best fielders, a brilliant all-rounder and probably one of the clutch finishers of the game, hasn’t really had the best of the IPL careers. So far, the New Zealander has played eight matches in two seasons for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals, but has failed to score a fifty. His highest score in the IPL remains 25.
One of the newest stars in the league, it would be hard to believe that Jitesh Sharma doesn’t have a fifty in the IPL. But as is the case, his highest score in three seasons for the Punjab Kings was unbeaten 49. It is only unfortunate that, despite getting to 49, and also a 44, the Maharashtra batter has not been able to get to a fifty.
Now that he has changed his team to Bengaluru, maybe he will be able to break the jinx.
