If someone told you that the Chennai Super Kings had both Mark Wood and Matt Henry in their repertoire of pace bowlers and failed to utilise them more than once in their entire stay in the yellow brigade, it would be hard to believe, right? But guess what? That’s the reality.
Here are three players who were with CSK in their IPL journey, but it would be hard to remember for fans that it happened.
Henry, now a world-feared all-format bowler from New Zealand, signed his first-ever contract in the Indian Premier League (IPL) with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), who bought him for INR 30 Lakh in the IPL 2024 auction.
Henry could not play even a single game, even though he had made his ODI debut for New Zealand against India by then.
Another world-feared pacer, Mark Wood, was also signed by Chennai Super Kings in the 2018 IPL, once again at his base price of INR 1.5 Cr. Wood could play only one game in the IPL. He went for 49 runs in that game in his four-overs spell.
Another superstar who went on to achieve a lot of success after being part of CSK is former Australia and Punjab Kings (PBKS) captain George Bailey.
While Bailey captained the PBKS side to an IPL final in 2014, his first season as captain of the franchise, he captained the Australian team in 57 white-ball matches.
