The one-off Test match between India and South Africa women has begun on an excellent note for Team India. Having won the toss and decided to bat first, openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma batted almost two sessions together and scored 292 runs for the first wicket.
After Mandhana departed, Shafali continued along her merry way, bringing up a double century in just 194 deliveries. Jemimah Rodrigues (55), Harmanpreet Kaur (42*), and Richa Ghosh (43*) ensured that India ended at a humungous Day 1 total of 525/4. The Proteas women face an uphill task ahead of them.
