After the abandoned game against Scotland and the significant loss against Australia, England’s campaign at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup was seriously jeopardised. Not only was their net run rate below Scotland's, but a single slip from them could see them exit from the group stages of two ICC tournaments in a calendar year.
However, that was not to be.
Led by their express pacers Mark Wood and Jofra Archer, as well as ace spinner Adil Rashid, England didn’t allow Oman a single sniff in the game. They first bundled the opposition for just 47, with the pacers taking three wickets each and Rashid taking four. Then they chased that down in just 19 deliveries to leapfrog Scotland’s NRR substantially.
Here’s a stat highlight from the game, summarising the incredulity of England’s achievement.
