Arshdeep Singh becomes India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is

It’s quite the achievement, considering it was only in July 2022 that the left-armer debuted

Arshdeep Singh has created history in the ongoing first T20I against England at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata, becoming India’s highest-ever wicket-taker in T20I Internationals.

Arshdeep began the first T20I with 95 scalps to his name, only behind Yuzvendra Chahal (95). But he struck twice in his first two overs in the game, first removing Phil Salt before snapping up Ben Duckett to go atop the special list.

It’s quite the achievement, considering it was only in July 2022 that the left-armer debuted. He has gotten to the landmark in just 61 innings; Chahal, in comparison, took 79 innings to take 96 wickets.

Notably, among full-member bowlers who have taken 75+ wickets in T20Is, Arshdeep’s strike rate of 12.9 is the best. Only Nepal’s Sandeep Lamichchane and Uganda’s Alpesh Ramjani have a better bowling strike rate among all bowlers.

Arshdeep is now three away from becoming the first Indian bowler to the 100-wicket mark in T20Is.

The left-arm seamer, who last week was named in India’s Champions Trophy squad, was part of the T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. He bowled the 4-run penultimate over when South Africa needed 20 off 2 overs, and he played a huge hand in the Men in Blue lifting the T20WC title for the first time in 17 years.
