India become No.1 across formats after Mohali victory
Even on a personal front, India have four players securing the top ranking on the ICC charts
India have ascended to the No.1 spot in ODI cricket, displacing Pakistan and thus becoming the second men's team in history to hold the No.1 ranking across all formats after beating Australia in the first of the three-match ODI series against Australia in Mohali. The only other team to achieve this feat was South Africa in 2012.
Currently, India have secured 116 points, and they can maintain this position only if they win the series. However, if they lose the remaining two games, Pakistan will reclaim the top spot.
In the past month, India, Pakistan, and Australia all had opportunities to claim the No.1 ranking. Despite a disappointing Asia Cup campaign, Pakistan managed to secure the position. Australia had a chance as well, but after losing the last three games to South Africa in the ODI series, they lost their bid.
Even on a personal front, India have four players securing the top ranking on the ICC charts. While Suryakumar Yadav is the No.1 batter in the shortest format of the game, Mohammed Siraj recently regained his position as the No.1 bowler in ODIs. Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja continue to secure the top spot on Test bowling and all-rounders list, respectively.
