FORTRESS BREACHED: RCB Beat CSK In Chennai After 6154 Days

The last time RCB defeated CSK at Chepauk was in 2008

May 21, 2008 - RCB beat CSK by 14 runs at Chepauk

6154 DAYS LATER

March 28, 2025, RCB beat CSK by 50 runs at Chepauk

It has finally happened, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) finally defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The last time RCB got the better of CSK in Chennai was during the inaugural season of the IPL in 2008. After that, the Royal Challengers lost eight consecutive games at the venue but have finally managed to break the jinx.

Both RCB and CSK came into this game having won their first game. While RCB defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Chennai got the better of Mumbai Indians (MI).

Asked to bat first, Phil Salt (16-ball 32) got RCB off to a flying start, but Virat Kohli (30-ball 31) didn’t look in great touch. RCB captain Rajat Patidar (32-ball 51), Devdutt Padikkal (14-ball 27) and Tim David (8-ball 22*) got going and took their team to 196/7.

In reply, Josh Hazlewood dismissed Rahul Tripathi and Ruturaj Gaikwad in the second over and CSK could never recover from that. The Men in Yellow could only manage 146/8 in 20 overs.

Chennai fell short by 50 runs - their third-biggest defeat by runs in the IPL, and the biggest at Chepauk.

CSK will next take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Guwahati on March 30, while RCB will play Gujarat Titans on April 2 in Bengaluru.
