Former Australia Pacer Wants To Play For England In Ashes 2025/26

He played 3 ODIs for Australia in 2016 but he left the country in 2022 and moved to England

Former Australia speedster Dan Worrall is keen to represent England in the forthcoming Ashes Down Under, having switched nationalities three years back.

Worrall, 33, played 3 ODIs for Australia in 2016 but he left the country in 2022 and joined Surrey as a local player thanks to the British passport which he held.

He has since been tearing it up in County Cricket, having taken 135 wickets at an average of 21.1 for Surrey. Is the South Australia legend ready to play against his country of birth later this year?

“Yeah, of course,” Worrall said, reported Telegraph Cricket.

“I haven’t thought about it. Everyone else keeps talking about it. I’m just going to go out and do my best for Surrey and hopefully enjoy another successful season at the Oval.

“It doesn’t faze me too much. It’s just one of those things where as a professional athlete, there’s always someone with an opinion and someone that wants to get the next headline or they want to see, they want to try and figure out the next thing that’s going to happen in their career.

“But I think as a player, as soon as you start thinking about that and letting that enter your thinking, it just detracts from your potential as a player and a professional and as a person. So as far as I’m concerned, I’m not that bothered. Whatever happens will happen. I’ll try my best wherever I am.”

If not as a player, there’s also an opportunity for Worrall to potentially assist the side as a mentor - due to the enormous experience he has bowling with the Kookkaburra ball in Australia. Worrall, overall, has played 51 first-class games in Australia and has taken a total of 191 wickets.

Speaking about how he can help out the visitors, the 33-year-old said, “I can tell [England's attack] how not to [bowl in Australia] - I spent 10 years doing that.

"There are a lot of guys around the squad that have more experience in Australia than I do, especially at that level, but I am always keen to help out players and English cricket."

Despite the outrageous numbers he’s put up, Worrall looks unlikely to be picked by England, purely because Brendon McCullum and Ben Stokes seem to be intrigued by pace, with the likes of Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, Jofra Archer and Mark Wood all being prepared for the Ashes Down Under.

Worrall agreed with England’s planning and claimed that ‘pace’ is the way to success in Australian conditions.

“I think the way that English cricket are setting up their fast bowling cartel is the way forward to win in Australia,” he said.

“We’ve seen success from Gus [Atkinson], Brydon Carse, Mark Wood. I think they’re trying to get Jofra [Archer] up and about for that Ashes series. There is the necessity for pace and bounce in Australia. I don’t think that’s a secret for anyone.”
