42-Year-Old James Anderson Registers For Hundred Draft

The 42-year-old played his last Test against West Indies at Lord’s in July 2024 and hasn't played any competitive game since then

Former England seamer James Anderson, who retired from international cricket in 2024 and hasn’t played any cricket for almost eight months, has registered his name for next week's Hundred draft, ESPNcricinfo reported on March 3 (Monday).

Anderson played his last Test against West Indies at Lord’s in July 2024. The 42-year-old has not played any professional cricket since then, taking up a bowling consultant role for the senior Men’s side.

Despite retiring from international cricket, Anderson’s drive to play cricket professionally has not died down. He recently put his name up in the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction. Though the 42-year-old went unsold, it was a big sign of intent.

Earlier this year, the right-arm pacer signed a one-year contract to continue his playing career with Lancashire ahead of the 2025 season. Anderson is set to feature in all three formats for the club.

Anderson last played a 50-over game in May 2019, while his last appearance in the 20-over format was in August 2024.

"Watching the Hundred this year, seeing the ball swing around, it makes me feel like I could do a job there,” Anderson had said during the last season of The Hundred. The draft for the upcoming season will be held on March 12. He is entering into the draft without a reserve price.

He will turn 43 before the next edition of the 100-ball tournament. If picked, Anderson will become the second-oldest player to feature in the competition after Imran Tahir.

David Warner, Glenn Maxwell, Nathan Ellis, Josh Inglis, Jason Roy, Dawid Malan, Noor Ahmad, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, Daryl Mitchell and Rachin Ravindra are some of the other big names who have registered for the draft.
