Ruturaj Gaikwad Does A Ponting, Declares Padikkal Out After Completing Low Catch
Gaikwad declared Padikkal out after taking a low catch
In the clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at Chepauk today, Devdutt Padikkal, often notorious for playing slow knocks, went berserk with the bat. He walked in at No.3 but unleashed a different avatar altogether, hammering 23 runs off his first 10 balls.
He hit a six off Sam Curran on his fourth ball, and then tore into Ravindra Jadeja, going 4, 4, 6 against the veteran left-arm spinner.
Padikkal’s blitz, however, was eventually ended by Ravichandran Ashwin, who got the left-hander caught at extra cover.
There was some curiosity surrounding the dismissal, though, as the catch was a slightly contentious one. The ball went very low to CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, who dove forward and grabbed it. The catch was sent upstairs by the on-field umpires but it was eventually cleared, and Padikkal was given out.
Immediately after taking the low catch, Gaikwad channeled his inner Ricky Ponting and declared Padikkal ‘out’ by raising his index finger. In a way, it was reminiscent of what Ponting did in the SCG Test against India back in 2008, when Michael Clarke took the catch of Sourav Ganguly.
