CSK vs MI: Ruturaj Gaikwad Slams His Fastest IPL Fifty
The CSK captain smashed a fifty off just 22 balls against Mumbai Indians
Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has started the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 in a tremendous fashion, slamming his fastest fifty in the competition. Against Mumbai Indians (MI) at Chepauk on March 23 (Sunday), Gaikwad got to his fifty off just 22 deliveries.
Chasing a target of 156, Gaikwad walked out to bat at No.3 and took the attack to MI bowlers from the word go. Gaikwad first slammed Trent Boult for consecutive fours and then whacked Deepak Chahar for a maximum over deep mid-wicket.
Gaikwad scored 42 runs in the powerplay, the second-most amount of runs he has scored in the first six overs in the IPL. The right-hander hit a total of eight boundaries in the powerplay - the most he has scored in the powerplay.
The CSK skipper, who hit Mitchell Santner for two fours and a six in the final over of the powerplay, completed his fifty in the seventh over, with his previous fastest IPL fifty coming against Gujarat Titans in 2023 off 23 deliveries.
However, he couldn’t go big and fell to debutant Vignesh Puthur in the eighth over. Gaikwad scored 53 off 26 balls, studded with six fours and three sixes.
