Charlotte Edwards Hails Mumbai Indians' 'Team Performance' After Claiming 2nd WPL Title
The MI head coach also hailed skipper Harmanpreet Kaur for her Player of the Match performance
Mumbai Indians (MI) beat Delhi Capitals (DC) by eight runs in the Women's Premier League (WPL) 2025 final to clinch their second title in three seasons. It was a low-scoring thriller in Mumbai as MI successfully defended 149, as DC succumbed to their third successive loss in a final.
Calling it a team performance, MI head coach Charlotte Edwards said she was also pleased with the fact that her side got the wickets of Meg Lanning and Shafali Verma early, which was key after her side managed just 149.
“It probably fell in our hands a little bit that we were a bit short, and potentially they went about it a bit slower than they normally do," Edwards said at the post-match press conference.
“The opening partnership of Lanning and Shafali has been our curse over the last few years if I'm honest, so I was really pleased to see the back of those two batters early. It was a real team performance."
Edwards also hailed Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored 66 off 44, saying that the skipper looked hungry to win another title.
“She's been really calm. She's deeply competitive, so clearly, she wanted to win another title here, and she did everything in her power to do that with the innings she played. She's great around the group, she brings out the best in our young players, and works brilliantly with all our overseas and experienced players,” Edwards said.
The former England skipper was also pleased with the dedication and fitness shown by the entire team, especially after they played four matches inside six days.
“To play four games in six days, yeah, I mean, it's been fantastic to see how the players have backed those performances up, and to come out here on the big stage and still give that energy to the performance, you know, I'm truly proud,” she said.
While Harmanpreet won the Player of the Match, it was Nat Sciver-Brunt, with 523 runs in the WPL 2025, who walked away with the Player of the Tournament award.
