The batting all-rounder Paige Scholfield will return home from England women’s tour of South Africa due to an injury while training.
The 28-year-old, who has played three ODIs and two T20Is for England’s women’s team, hurt her ankle in training on Tuesday (November 19). After further assessment on Wednesday, she was withdrawn from the tour and will return to the UK for rehabilitation.
Schofield played that last of her two T20Is for England before the Women’s T20 World Cup last month, taking part in the bilateral series against Ireland in September. However, she was overlooked for the World Cup and then brought back as the management wanted to try new players after a disappointing group stage exit in the silverware tournament.
"Speaking to my mum and dad when I told them about this tour to South Africa, they were over the moon, being diehard South Africans, they just couldn't believe it. My mum started crying. It's just so exciting and I just hope it continues to happen,” Scholfield, born in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, had said about her selection for this tour of his native country.
England women’s all-format tour of South Africa will begin on November 24 with the first of the three T20Is in East London. The T20Is will be followed by three ODIs and one Test from December 15.
