That is all from this game. The next game of BBL 2024/25 will be match no. 29 and it will be played between Hobart Hurricanes vs Sydney Thunder on 10th January 2025 at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT). Do join us earlier for the build up. Till then, cheers!
Glenn Maxwell IS THE PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says sometimes the low scores make a good game and it was one of those games. Mentions that they just tried to stay in the game and the Surge went their way and the game turned from there. Adds that they did drop a few catches but they are happy with two points at the end. Closes by saying that Vince was the biggest wicket as he has had a lot of success against them and the side is pumped with their performances off late.
Earlier in the game, the Stars were in a precarious position at 60/4 before Webster and Maxwell joined hands to boost the Stars to a competitive total. Webster anchored the innings while Maxwell played his natural hitting game.
Bowling from the Stars was brilliant a bit off to start with. After the Sixers took the Surge, the Star's bowlers responded with renewed energy, taking wickets in quick succession to seal a 16-run victory. Mark Stekette was the standout performer with three wickets, while Peter Siddle, Marcus Stoinis, and Usama Mir chipped in with two wickets each.
Sydney Sixers chase of an in-between total got off to a brisk start, despite losing Josh Philippe early. They maintained a good scoring rate until James Vince's departure in the 14th over, which triggered a collapse. Vince top-scored with 53, while Hayden Kerr provided some resistance, but ultimately, the Sixers fell short.
The Sixers were unbeaten until the Stars arrived. Melbourne Stars defend 156 that looked below-par at the midway stage and they have defeated Sydney Sixers by 16 runs.

Mark Steketee to Sean Abbott ,OUT! Catching practice for Usama Mir. Short-pitched around middle and off, pace off again. Sean Abbott just helps this into the arms of Mir at backward point. What Abbott was thinking behind this stroke is hard to understand as the Sixers needed 18 off the last 3 balls.

Mark Steketee to Sean Abbott ,BYE! On a length wide outside off, Sean Abbott swings and misses. The ball goes back to the keeper and the batters cross over for one.
A brilliant over from Peter Siddle costing just 8 and picking up a key wicket of Ben Dwarshuis in such circumstances leaves the Stars ahead in the contest with 20 needed off the final over.

Peter Siddle to Ben Dwarshuis ,OUT! Siddle created another opportunity and Ben Dwarshuis finds the tallest fielder out of all in Beau Webster at deep mid-wicket. Short-pitched around leg, Ben Dwarshuis clears his front leg and pulls this one. Doesn't get enough power behind this to take it over the ropes but the ball finds the outstretched hands of Beau Webster.

Peter Siddle to Hayden Kerr ,DROPPED! Kerr is dropped by Glenn Maxwell. On a length around middle and leg, Hayden Kerr flat bats this straight at Glenn Maxwell towards long on. Glenn Maxwell runs in a bit too quickly and the ball strikes his hands hard. It goes straight in and comes out with no time for Maxi to grab this on the second attempt.
