“Wish I Had That, But It’s Not…”-Glenn Phillips Reveals Secret Behind Fielding Success

Phillips was asked about how he has been so successful on the field, especially in catching

Glenn Phillips, one of the best fielders and especially catcher going around in world cricket, was at his wittiest best when he was asked about whether there is glue stuck to his hands that all the catches that he attempts get stuck.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference on March 1 (Saturday) ahead of New Zealand’s ICC Champions Trophy 2025 clash against India in Dubai on March 2 (Sunday), Phillips said that he wished he had glue in his hands, but it's rather the opposite.

“I wish I could say that I've got a special little glue tag that I use, but unfortunately, that's not the case. If anything, my palms are more sweaty than anything else,” he said.

So if there is no glue, what is the secret behind Phillips’ outrageous catching success? Answering that, the 28-year-old said, “It obviously comes down to a lot of hard work and doing the basics as much as I can and then sometimes luck just plays a good part in it. I think a great deal of luck comes into play.”

Phillips, who has been one of the biggest assets of the New Zealand team with his bowling, batting and fielding and the ability to keep wickets as well, makes him the real Mr. Cricket.
