Was thinking of taking it to last two balls: Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Sanju Samson, on the other hand, stated that Rajasthan had done everything under their control to hold the game in their kitty
In one of the most thrilling games of the IPL 2024, Sunrisers Hyderabad prevailed over Rajasthan Royals as Bhuvneshwar Kumar defended 13 runs in the last over. The Indian pacer executed four yorkers in the final over to ensure that Rovman Powell couldn’t open his arms and aim for the skies.
Rajasthan Royals, who had secured eight wins in nine games coming into the Thursday encounter, would have hoped to walk away with the win when Powell hit the UP pacer’s low full toss for a four, but keeping his calm under pressure, Bhuvneshwar Kumar ensured that Hyderabad returned to winning ways after two disheartening losses in the IPL 2024.
“I think that is my nature,” Bhuvneshwar Kumar said in the post-match presentation. “Process is very important, and I was not thinking about the result in the last over and was thoughtless. Was just thinking of taking it to the last two balls, and then anything can happen. I was not thinking about the one extra fielder up. It was the first match the ball swung so much.”
Sanju Samson, on the other hand, stated that Rajasthan had done everything under their control to hold the game in their kitty before the last over changed the narrative in the home side’s favour.
“We have really played some close games and won a couple of them. Lost one here, and we have to give credit to the SRH bowlers. We were going at 10 per over till the last over. The margin for error is very less in the IPL, and you have to give SRH credit. Knowing the nature of the IPL, you never win the game until you actually win the game,” Samson told host broadcasters.
Two of the senior-most players in the side, Jos Buttler and Samson himself, failed to open their account, but the 134-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag helped Rajasthan touch the 200-run mark. Samson credited the duo with how they navigated the tough conditions.
“It was very tough to bat on with the new ball. We bowled well in the powerplay. When the ball got old, it was easier to bat, and they capitalized really well. You have to give credit to both youngsters. They took care of the innings, and played responsibility to get there. You tend to take those chances and you tend to get out also. They played really well,” the Rajasthan Royals skipper added.
