Suryakumar, Chahar ruled out of Sri Lanka T20Is
Both players suffered injuries during the third and final T20I against West Indies
Middle-order batter Suryakumar Yadav and right-arm seamer Deepak Chahar have been ruled out of the three-match T20I series against Sri Lanka, starting Thursday (February 24), the BCCI announced on Wednesday.
The 31-year-old batter, who was adjudged Player of the Series in the T20Is against West Indies, suffered a hairline fracture on his hand during a fielding attempt in the third and final T20I in Kolkata.
Meanwhile, Chahar sustained a right quadriceps injury in the last encounter and could only bowl 1.5 overs in the second innings. They will now head to the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru for further management of their injuries.
India are already without KL Rahul, Axar Patel and Washington Sundar in this series against Sri Lanka, while Virat Kohli and Rishabh Pant too have been rested.
However, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja are back in the mix and India won't be naming a replacement for either player, especially with bio-security protocols in place. In the pace department, the Men in Blue also have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Avesh Khan, Mohammed Siraj and Harshal Patel.
The first T20I will be played at Lucknow while the remaining two games will be played on February 26 and 27 in Dharamsala.
India's T20I squad: Rohit Sharma (c), Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Ishan Kishan (wk), Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Harshal Patel, Jasprit Bumrah (vc), Avesh Khan.
