Breaking records once is an achievement. Breaking records that you created is legendary.
Leading up to the game, fans on social media all had speculated a wild rampage happening at M Chinnaswamy Stadium when Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru(RCB). With RCB bowling in tatters and SRH batting in sublime touch, the mood heading into the game was epic in expectation.
RCB choosing to bowl allowed SRH to come with a fresh canvas and a thought of exploiting the RCB bowlers and sending them to cleaners. Like their captain Pat Cummins who has a history of living up to expectations, the SRH team too lived up to the standards as they demolished their own achievements and became legendary after posting 287/3. While reaching that gargantuan score and playing the match, many records were broken in the game.
The SRH batter hammered RCB left, right and centre and registered the highest total in IPL history breaking their own previous best of 277/3 that they had achieved 19 days ago against Mumbai Indians. It is also the second-highest total in T20 Cricket.
The matters began with Travis Head hammering the RCB bowlers as he set the tone of the game by completing his fifty within the first six overs. His acceleration continued as he scored his ton in 39 balls, which is the fourth fastest century in IPL.
Travis Head also notched his first IPL ton. In the process, RCB conceded their 13th century which is the most against a team in IPL. In the process of scoring his highest T20 score, Head also had a spectacular 108-run partnership for the opening wicket with Abhishek Sharma which happens to have the highest-ever strike rate for a 100+ run partnership in IPL.
The tone for the biggest IPL total was well set as SRH managed 128 runs in the first 10 overs. It happens to be the highest total against RCB in the first 10 overs.
As the innings came to an end, SRH not only posted the highest IPL total. They also smashed the most sixes in an IPL innings as they one-upped RCB’s 21 sixes against Pune Warriors India with 22 sixes. Along with 22 sixes, SRH batters added 19 more fours during the innings totaling the boundary count to 41, which is the second-most boundaries hit in an IPL innings.
RCB bowlers had a day to forget as they created some unwanted history in their name as it was the first instance of four bowlers going for 50+ runs in their spells.
RCB started the chase with a bang, as Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis smoked SRH bowlers everywhere, scoring 79 runs in the powerplay, which happens to be the highest score for RCB at the end of the first six overs.
The Bengaluru side tried their best to chase the biggest target in IPL history, but they ended up falling short by 25 runs as they managed 262, which happens to be the highest total while chasing in T20 cricket.
Overall, this SRH v RCB was a run fest for the ages as unexpected numbers were attained. A total of 549 runs were scored cumulatively, which is the most in T20 cricket history, surpassing the previous best of 523 that also involved SRH against MI just 3 weeks ago.
SRH smashed 41 boundaries, and RCB smashed 40 boundaries, totaling up to 81 which happens to be the joint most boundaries hit in a T20 match.
