Mohammad Amir Reveals Which Team He Wants To Play For In IPL
The former Pakistan pacer hopes to play in the tournament in 2026
Pakistan players have been banned from participating in the Indian Premier League (IPL) since IPL 2009 as the political relationship between the two neighbours took a nosedive after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
However, there have been coaches and commentators from Pakistan were involved in the tournament even after that. Former Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir, whose wife is a UK citizen, hopes to get a UK passport soon and play in the IPL. He hopes to play from the 2026 edition and wants to turn up for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), if given a choice.
“Next year tak meri opportunity ban rahi agar hua to kyu nahi [By next year, I will have the opportunity to play in the IPL and if given the chance then why not]. I will play in the IPL,” Amir said on the show “Haarna Mana Hai.”
The reason Amir chose RCB is because of the cordial relationship he shares with Virat Kohli, who has been with the franchise since the start. “Virat is great and admires talent,” Amir said.
“Virat gifted me his bat and I was overwhelmed by his action,” Amir reminisced. “I have always been a great admirer of his batting and he is of my bowling. I played some good knocks with his bat.”
Another Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad, who was on the show, went on to add that Amir can change RCB's fortunes by helping them win their maiden title. “RCB need a bowler like Amir to fix their bowling woes. They have good batting unit but their bowling has always been a problem. If Amir plays for RCB, they will win the title,” he said.
Since making his debut in 2008, Amir has taken 364 wickets in 316 T20 matches. He has also played over 150 international matches for Pakistan.
