Moeen Ali Calls Dhoni, Klusener Better Hitters Of Cricket Ball Than Current Stars

Moeen said that it was difficult for the likes of Dhoni and Klusener to hit the soft ball, and yet they did it so well

Former England all-rounder Moeen Ali rated former India captain MS Dhoni and South Africa all-rounder Lance Klusener as one of the fiercest hitters of the ball and better than the current stars who have averages in 50 and 60 even while batting at the death.

Reasoning why he thought so, Moeen while speaking on the Beard Before Wicket Podcast, said, “Back in the day, guys like Lance Klusener and MS Dhoni, when they were hitting, they were hitting literally the softest ball. Dark, old, and soft. Reverse swing is hard to hit and see as well.”

So why were they hitting the softest ball? Because before the rule change came into effect in October 2011. Talking about that particular rule change, Moeen said that it is one of the reasons why ODI cricket is in dire straits.

“In one-day cricket back then, because you had the old ball, reverse swing came into play as well within 30 overs. It’s hard to hit sixes and fours off the older ball. Now, if you look, even when I batted at seven, it was easier to hit. It is easier than it would have been 15 years ago,” he said.
