The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 has approved left-handed batter Kyle Mayers as a replacement for Brandon King in the West Indies squad.
Mayers, who has played 37 T20Is for the Windies, was named as a replacement after King was ruled out due to a side strain he picked up during the England clash for which he retired as well. Mayers is expected to join the squad on Saturday.
The replacement of a player requires the approval of the Event Technical Committee before the player can be officially added to the squad. The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 consists of Wasim Khan (ICC General Manager – Cricket), Chris Tetley (ICC Head of Events), Johnny Grave (CEO, Cricket West Indies) and Kass Naidoo (Independent Representative).
Hosts and two-time champions Windies won all four group games to make it to the Super Eight stage of the competition but lost to England by a massive margin of eight wickets at the Daren Sammy National Cricket Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia, on June 19 (Wednesday).
They are slated to take on the United States of America on June 21 (Friday) at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
