Yuzvendra Chahal fetched the biggest amount in the second marquee set of the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The leg-spinner will be playing for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 2025 season at a whopping amount of INR 18 crore, almost thrice as much as his signing amount with Rajasthan Royals (RR) of INR 6.5 crore in the 2022 mega auction.
Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) started the bid for Chahal but opted out after 19 bids. Punjab came into the bidding at INR 6 crore and defeated GT, Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to secure Chahal. The 34-year-old will now be playing for his fourth team having represented Mumbai Indians (MI), RCB and RR before.
Chahal was the highest wicket-taker in the 2022-24 IPL auction cycle with 66 wickets, averaging 22.8 at an economy of 8.4. This cycle also elevated him to the position of overall highest-wicket taker in the IPL, becoming the first bowler to pick 200 wickets in the competition's history during the 2024 season.
Mohammed Shami will pair up with Pat Cummins in SRH’s seam-bowling department in 2025 season. The runners-up of the 2024 season bought Shami for INR 10 crore.
Shami will thus be representing his fifth side in the IPL having played for Kolkata, Delhi, Punjab and Gujarat before. Kolkata, Chennai and Lucknow were also in the bid to sign Shami.

Hyderabad won the bid at INR 10 crore. GT didn’t exercise their right-to-match (RTM) card for their former premier pacer given they had already bought Kagiso Rabada.
The second marquee set also saw some steal buys — namely KL Rahul to DC at 14 crore, Liam Livingstone to RCB at 8.75 crore and David Miller to LSG at 7.5 crore.
Both KL and Livingstone were signed for a lesser amount than their 2022 auction price. Rahul was drafted by LSG at 17 crore in 2022 and Livingstone was signed at the auction for over 11 crore. Miller has gone more than twice his 2022 price of 3 crore but given his returns as a T20 star, his price was rather underwhelming. The previous teams of these three players had the RTM card which they refused to use.
Mohammed Siraj was the other player in this set, signed by GT at 12.25 crore. Again, RCB refused to use their RTM for Siraj.
