IPL 2025: Massive Change Brewing In Gujarat Titans
Torrent Group are set to buy a 67% stake in the Titans from CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte Ltd)
The Ahmedabad-based Torrent Group, an Indian business conglomerate, will be buying a majority stake in an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, Gujarat Titans (GT), reported ESPNcricinfo.
They are set to buy a 67% stake from CVC Capital Partners (Irelia Company Pte Ltd), who bought the franchise in 2021.
“It is understood the IPL is processing the paperwork before a final nod is given by the league's governing council. Subject to the final approval, GT's new owners could likely be involved from the 2025 season, which starts on March 21,” reported Nagraj Gollapudi for ESPNcricinfo.
“It is understood that Jinal Mehta, the son of the Torrent Group chairman emeritus Sudhir Mehta, will oversee the IPL investment.”
CVC had paid INR 5,625 crore (US$ 750 million approx.) to acquire the franchise in 2021. Under Hardik Pandya, the Titans won the IPL in their very first year in 2022 and then finished as the runners-up in 2023.
The all-rounder shifted his base to Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2024 edition, and Shubman Gill was given the captaincy. GT finished eighth on the points table.
Apart from Gill, the Titans also have other big stars like Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, Mohammed Siraj and Kagiso Rabada in their squad for the 2025 season, which will get underway on March 21.
