India’s departure from Barbados delayed due to Hurricane Beryl

The brutal Hurricane Beryl has trapped the Indian team back in Barbados, with the airport shut down

India’s departure from Barbados, following the triumphant T20 World Cup win, has been delayed due to Hurricane Beryl. The Category Four Hurricane has had a sweeping effect on the entire coast.

The Washington Post reported that Beryl is anticipated to hit the Windward Islands with winds exceeding 130 mph, forcing the authorities in Barbados to shut the airport down. Further reports added that the team were expected to fly out of New York on an Emirates flight with a stopover in Dubai. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI)’s Secretary confirmed India’s delayed departure.

“Like you we are also stuck here. After the travel plans are clear, we will think about the felicitation,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah told reporters in Barbados.

India ended an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy, having previously won the 2013 Champions Trophy. In terms of T20 World Cups, this is India’s second tournament win, 17 years after their first win in 2007.
