Follow UsVirat Kohli has been dismissed for less than 50 for the first time against Pakistan in a T20 World Cup encounter. The 35-year-old got out for just 4 in India’s second match of the 2024 T20 World Cup on June 9 (Sunday).
78*, 36*, 55*, 57 and 82* - these were Kohli’s scores against Pakistan in the T20 World Cup coming into this game.
The batting maestro has been Pakistan’s biggest kryptonite in the 20-over showpiece event. Prior to this match, Kohli was averaging 308 versus the Men in Green in this competition.
Coming out to open alongside Rohit Sharma, Kohli didn’t get to face a single delivery in the first over. Then there was a short rain break before the players walked back in.
Kohli was up against Naseem Shah and the right-handed batter got off the mark with a superb cover drive. The paceman, however, got his revenge in the same over.
Naseem went short and wide and Kohli threw his bat at it, trying to slap it over point. He got it off the toe end and the ball went straight into the hands of Usman Khan, leaving everyone stunned at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
In the last T20 World Cup in Australia, it was Kohli who single-handedly won India this particular fixture. He slammed 82* off 53 deliveries at the Melbourne Cricket Ground and helped India chase down 160 after losing four wickets for just 31 runs.
This is also the second instance Kohli has gotten out for single digits in three consecutive games in T20Is. He got out for a golden duck against Afghanistan in Bengaluru earlier this year and then was dismissed for just 1 off 5 in India’s first match of this T20 WC against Ireland.
