THESE RCB Stars And Other Big Names To Miss IPL 2025 Due To Injury?

With 10 days to go for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, injuries have started to galore

With 10 days to go for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, injuries have started to galore. But some injuries are worse than the others, meaning a few of the injured players might spend an extended period on the sidelines. It means these players might not just miss the Champions Trophy but also potentially the 2025 Indian Premier League. We look at a few superstars who could end up sitting IPL 2025 out due to injury.

Josh Hazlewood (RCB)

Josh Hazlewood has had his fair share of injuries in the last few years but still RCB took a gamble on him, purchasing him for ₹12.50 Cr at the mega auction. But after missing a good chunk of the BGT against India due to injury, Hazlewood has already been confirmed to miss the Champions Trophy.

Cricket Australia have already hinted that the seriousness of the injury could make the 34-year-old rethink his IPL participation, particularly with the WTC Final nearing. Should Hazlewood withdraw, it will be a huge blow for RCB, for whom the Aussie was the most expensive signing.

Anrich Nortje (KKR)

Anrich Nortje has had a torrid time with injuries in the last three years, and a fresh back injury has added to his misery. The 31-year-old tearaway, like Hazlewood, has already been confirmed to miss the Champions Trophy.

Considering back injuries, in general, tend to be very serious in most cases, there is a good chance Nortje could also end up sitting out the IPL. Not least due to how little ‘top level’ cricket he’s played in recent times. Mind you, throughout 2024, Nortje just played 11 matches for South Africa with all 11 coming in the shortest format. He played no ODIs and Tests in 2024.

At the mega auction, Nortje was purchased for ₹6.50 Cr by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Lockie Ferguson (PBKS)

Another fast bowler in this list is New Zealand’s Lockie Ferguson. The right-arm tearaway, who was leading Desert Vipers in the ongoing ILT20 2025 season, sustained a hamstring injury in the Qualifier 1 clash against Dubai Capitals. That injury has put him in serious doubt for the Champions Trophy. The extent of the hamstring injury could decide his participation in IPL 2025.

Hamstring injuries can sometimes be serious enough to rule a player out for months. Stokes injured his hamstring in the Test series against New Zealand in December and is still out of action. Punjab Kings, who bought Ferguson for INR 2 cr, will hope the injury is not serious.

Jacob Bethell (RCB)

Jacob Bethell is the latest RCB star to get injured after picking up a hamstring injury. He is, as things stand, a major doubt for the Champions Trophy. England have already made plans to fly in Tom Banton as a replacement for the left-hander for the third ODI of the ongoing series.

Should the injury be serious, the ECB might ask Bethell to sit out the IPL. Considering he’s already played a lot of cricket in the past few months, including a full Big Bash League (BBL) season. Bethell is still only 21 and England will want to not run him into the ground.

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)

Jasprit Bumrah’s ‘back spasm’ continues to remain the most mysterious injury of the year. India have named him in the Champions Trophy squad, but that’s out of mere hope than anything else. They are still awaiting confirmation over his availability.

Fair to say that, should Bumrah’s back injury even be remotely serious, the chances of him missing IPL 2025 are massive.

It will be a body blow to Mumbai Indians (MI) if Bumrah misses IPL 2025, considering he constitutes like half the team’s bowling line-up.
