“Be humble”: Wasim Akram’s Advice To Abrar Ahmed After His Viral Celebration

Wasim Akram felt that a celebration of that kind wasn’t required when the match situation was against Pakistan

Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed dismissed Shubman Gill in the game between India and Pakistan in Dubai with a brilliant carrom ball.

At 100/1 chasing 242, India were in cruise control of the chase that they eventually won with ease. It came to a point where Pakistan needed a moment of magic to get back into the contest. Abrar obliged and produced a delivery that was nothing but pure magic.

Against the well-set Shubman Gill (46) who was batting like a dream, the leggie delivered an inch-perfect carrom ball that drifted in, pitched on middle and leg, beat the outside edge of the right-hander and crashed into off-stump. The way Gill was batting, it needed an absolute dream delivery to dismiss him, and Abrar did just that.

The reaction from Gill said it all as he was left stunned. At the non-striker’s end, even Virat Kohli was impressed with the delivery and gave the Pakistan spinner a nod of approval.

You can watch the reaction here.

However, that didn’t impress Wasim Akram, who felt it was unrequited and looked uncouth on TV. He advised Abrar to be humble, as Pakistan weren’t in a good position in the game.

“I was really impressed with his delivery, but not with his celebration,” Akram said on the show “Dressing Room”.

“It’s okay to celebrate. Even take off your clothes for all I care. But you know the match is stuck, despite you taking that wicket. Be humble. But that’s not happening. There’s no one to tell him [how to behave on the field].

“It was a great delivery. But that celebration killed the vibes. It doesn’t even looks good on TV.”
