IND vs ENG 3rd T20I: Bowlers keep England alive with dominating win in Rajkot

With this win, England now have the chance to win the remaining two games and take the series 3-2

England were able to stay alive in the series after they beat India in the third T20I of the five-match series by 26 runs on January 28 (Tuesday). After losing the first two games, the English did not look like winning the match after the first innings as they were restricted to 171/9 after being 83/1 at one point in time.

At the end of the first innings, England were thought to be at least 10-15 runs below the par score at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot.

However, the English bowlers showcased that they do not play the conditions, but the situations, managing to strike at every opportune moment. No Indian batter was able to get the momentum going in their favour.

Adil Rashid removed Tilak Varma, India’s hero from the last game and the match turned on its head as the required rate increased and runs were hard to come by.

While Rashid finished with figures of 1/15 in his four overs, Overton also went for only 24 runs i.e. run a ball for his three wickets. This means that India could score only 39 runs in 48 balls when it mattered the most.

Hardik Pandya top-scored for the Indian team with 40 while opener Abhishek Sharma made 24. No other batter was able to cross even the 20-run mark.

Apart from Overton and Rashid, Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse picked two wickets each while Mark Wood got one.

Earlier, after losing the toss and being asked to bat first, England lost Phil Salt early on. However, skipper Jos Buttler (24) and Ben Duckett (51) added crucial 76 runs for the second wicket. Later on, thanks to Liam Livingstone’s 24-ball 43 and 10 each from number 10 Mark Wood and number 11 Adil Rashid, England managed to reach 171/9.

Varun Chakravarthy was the pick of the bowlers for India as he picked his second five-wicket haul. However, just like the last time around, when India had lost to South Africa, Chakravarthy’s five-for came in a losing cause, making him the first bowler to achieve two five-wicket hauls in a losing cause.
