Glad I was able to put my hand up: Suryakumar Yadav

A series on the line, and the mercurial Mumbaikar came up with a fantastic knock to help India make it 2-1

A fantastic knock from Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) helped India register their first win of the series. After having a couple of middling outings earlier, his coming-to-form also bodes well for the side. He was also awarded the MOTM for tonight's splendid performance.

India had really struggled to get going in the powerplay, and that had played a big role in them not being able to post above-par scores. He once again unleashed his range of unorthodoxy, as he scooped and swept WI bowlers with utter disdain.

"It was really important to be myself in the powerplay. The team wanted me to bat a much as possible. I practiced these strokes a lot. I have loved to do that. I just like to express myself," SKY said at the post match presentation.

He stitched a brilliant 87 run partnership with his MI teammate Tilak Varma - a partnership that practically put the Windies out of the game. He spoke about how knowing Tilak from the IPL helped them while batting together in the middle.

With India having a fairly young T20I squad for the WI tour, the onus was on the likes of SKY to lead the batting unit and take them forward.

"We've batted for a long time now. We both understand each other. It was his day to bat with maturity. He was batting with a lot of confidence. Helped me bat well. We spoke in the team meeting, our captain said someone needs to put their hand up and win the match. Glad I was able to do that," he added.

Both teams now head to Florida for the final two T20Is, and a 2-1 scoreline means that both teams now have a lot more than just respect to play for.
