Former India coach Chappell loses his Baggy Green

Former India coach Greg Chappell has claimed that he's lost his Baggy Green, which is the cap that Australian Test cricketers get when they make their international debut. Chappell thinks that it has not been stolen, but has rather just disappeared from his storage. 

“We had stuff in storage for about 10 years or so, and when we moved back to Adelaide we brought everything out of storage and I was expecting to find that baggy green cap, but it didn’t appear,” the 76-year-old told journalists Peter Lalor and Gideon Haigh on Cricket Et Al.

Revealing more details about the cap, the former Aussie batter said, “I don’t know what happened to it. I wouldn’t like to cast aspersions, but it went into storage, and it doesn’t seem to have come out. I don’t surround myself with my cricket memorabilia … (but) I’m a little bit disappointed.”

Incidentally, this is the second Baggy Green from Chappell that has gone missing. He got two from Cricket Australia as one was auctioned after he gifted it to England's Geoffrey Boycott. That cap fetched $15,000 in 2020. 

Having played 87 Tests and scored 24 centuries, one of three Chappell brothers, Greg is considered one of the legends of Australian cricket.
