Bumrah becomes 10th Indian to pick 400 international wickets

In terms of pacers, however, Bumrah is only the sixth Indian to pick 400 international wickets

Jasprit Bumrah brought up a major milestone on the second day of the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai as he became the 10th Indian to pick 400 wickets in international cricket.

In terms of pacers, however, Bumrah is only the sixth, after Kapil Dev, Zaheer Khan, Javagal Srinath, Mohammed Shami and Ishant Sharma, to breach the 400-wicket mark across formats for India.

Bumrah brought up the milestone at Chepauk by dismissing Hasan Mahmud. Earlier in the day, the 30-year-old also picked the wickets of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shadman Islam.

Notably, among all Indians who have picked 400 wickets, Bumrah has the best average (21.01) and strike rate (33.2).

In fact, among all bowlers in history who have picked 400 or more international wickets, Bumrah’s average of 21.01 is second only to Joel Garner (20.20). His strike rate of 33.2, meanwhile, is only second to Lasith Malinga.

Bumrah’s wickets breakdown in international cricket looks as follows: 162 in Tests, 149 in ODIs and 89 in T20Is. He averages under 25 with the ball in all three formats.
