After Billings And Brook, THIS Batter Throws Hat In The Ring For England Captaincy
Ever since his comeback in Tests with the start of the Bazball era, the opener has looked supremely confident, and it shows in his form too.
The jigsaw puzzle of who would be England's new white-ball captain has still not been fitted, and a new contender has thrown his hat in the ring for the role. Expressing his desire to lead England, Ben Duckett, the most successful batter of the side in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, said that it would be a dream come true for him.
“To captain England would obviously be a dream. I don’t think it’s on the radar, but I don’t know that, which is why I am answering like that,” Duckett told Sky Sports.
"We will see what happens moving forward and what decisions are made. I am just pretty happy playing for England at the minute. Three or four years ago I wouldn’t have thought I’d be doing that, so just living my dream as a kid, representing my country — I am very happy playing all three formats,” added the southpaw.
Ever since his comeback in Tests with the start of the Bazball era, Duckett has looked supremely confident and it shows in his form too.
The 30-year-old has scored 1,058 runs in ODIs, 412 runs in T20Is and 2,270 runs in Tests. He has appeared in 22 ODIS, 17 T20Is and 32 Tests so far.
Earlier, people believed that Harry Brook, who was named Buttler's deputy for the Champions Trophy, would be the next person in charge of England’s white ball set-up.
Sam Billings, who is currently not even a part of the England white-ball set-up, also backed himself to be a perfect fit for the role.
“I'd be honoured, you would obviously jump at an opportunity like that. I feel like I can add value,” Billings told the BBC.
