Detailed Commentary

That concludes the proceedings for this match. Tuesday was quite productive for Trinbago Knight Riders and Barbados Royals. As has been the case, 8th September 2021 will bring another double-header our way. The first match of Wednesday will be between St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Jamaica Tallawahs at 10 am local (2 pm GMT) and that will be followed by a big mid-table clash between Guyana Amazon Warriors and Saint Lucia Kings at 7 pm local (11 pm GMT). Do join us for all the action. Cheers!

Jason Holder, the victorious skipper of Barbados Royals, credits his boys for a complete game. Holder is sounding happy with the effort of his batsmen. Tells that when the result is not going your way, you chop and change your XI but they have given their players a fair opportunity. Mentions that the openers gave them a good start and that handed them the momentum. Adds that they just need to take one game at a time.

Nicholas Pooran, the captain of Guyana Amazon Warriors, says that he is not surprised that the wicket played well. Tells that they backed themselves to chase down the target but it was a bit tricky. Adds that they went in with three spinners and two pacers but they didn't utilize the conditions well in the first 6-7 overs. States that they back their batsmen and hopes they will find their momentum. Pooran wants more from his batters including himself. Further says that on a tough pitch, the batsmen hitting the ball well should do the job. Reminds us that in the last match, the spinners bowled well but he feels that maybe they should have played one extra seamer. Signs off by saying that they will learn and come back stronger.

Kyle Mayers is chosen for the Player of the Match award. Starts by saying that it was a good partnership at the top with Johnson Charles. Shares that they wanted to go into the match with intent and wanted to take the attack to the bowlers. Regarding the difference between opening and batting in the middle order, Mayers replies that opening the innings for him is a relief, no pressure and he can express himself better. Informs that the new ball came on well but once it got old, the ball started to grip and it was difficult to play shots. Mentions that they utilized the conditions well and bowled superbly. He praises Johnson Charles for his knock and calls Glenn Phillips a class player. Feels this win will hand them the momentum and they will take the positives into the next match.

Presentation time...

Barbados Royals turned up with intent in this match. They tried out a different opening combination and Kyle Mayers provided them with a breezy start. Johnson Charles also left his mark and Glenn Phillips took their good work forward. With the ball, the Royals were equally impressive. Every bowler contributed to the cause and Nyeem Young was the most successful one with three wickets.

The chase never got going for Guyana Amazon Warriors. Their openers flopped in this match and the star batters, Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran didn't spend enough time in the middle. Mohammad Hafeez tried to stay in but was not at his fluent best. The wickets kept tumbling for the Warriors and apart from the late attempt from Odean Smith, there wasn't much fight shown by them.

Barbados Royals have avenged their loss against Guyana Amazon Warriors in the reverse fixture and also stopped their 3-match losing streak. A much-needed victory for them and the smile on the face of Jason Holder says it all. The Royals are still hanging in there and this victory keeps them in the hunt for the semis.
