Right then, that's all from this game. The Big Bash League 2022-23 action continues on Monday, 9th January as Hobart Hurricanes take on Melbourne Stars at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. That game will begin at 1.45 pm IST (8.15 am GMT). As always, you can join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

Sean Abbott is the Player of the Match for his brilliant spell of 3 for 9 from his four overs. He says that Dan Christian was pretty upset because he saw a green tinge on the wicket. Adds that they are getting to that stage of the season where they need to perform and he is really happy with the way they did tonight. Says that he thought there would a bit more swing but he adjusted to the conditions. Praises the Sydney Thunder boys who put up a good fight but they dragged it back at the end. Adds that this victory shapes up nicely for the return fixture and he hopes to make it 2-0 against them this season.

Time for Presentations...

Having failed to put up a good score on the board, the onus was on Sydney Thunder bowlers to step up and take early inroads with the new ball. They did take three wickets inside the Powerplay to put Sydney Sixers under the pump. However, they failed to keep the pressure on from thereon and failed to make a mark against Jordan Silk and Moises Henriques. With not a big total to defend, Sydney Thunder were behind the eight ball and in the end, failed to defend the total. Chris Green and Brendan Doggett starred with the ball for Sydney Thunder but not enough to help them get the win in this game.

Earlier in the game, after being sent into bat, Sydney Thunder were off to a shaky start losing three wickets inside the Powerplay. Sam Whiteman and Alex Ross then got together to resurrect the Sydney Thunder innings. However, neither of them was able to bat through and their dismissals meant Sydney Thunder lost their way in the innings. Ben Cutting did strike a few lusty blows towards the end to get his side over the 130-run mark but it proved to be not enough against a strong Sydney Sixers side.

A comprehensive win for Sydney Sixers! A dominant performance with both bat and ball sees Sydney Sixers cruise home to victory in the Sydney Smash. While chasing a low total, they lost their top three batters in the first four overs. Jordan Silk along with skipper Moises Henriques stitched an unbeaten 109-run stand with both batters notching their respective fifties to ensure there were no more hiccups in the chase. With this 7-wicket win, Sydney Sixers go top of the Big Bash League 2022-23 standings.
