Right then, that's all from this game. Friday, 16th December brings the first double header of Big Bash League 2022-23 season. The first game of the day sees Melbourne Stars take on Hobart Hurricanes and that game will begin at 11.35 am IST (6.05 am GMT). It will be followed by Sydney Thunder taking on Adelaide Strikers and that game will begin at 2.45 pm IST (9.15 am GMT). Do join us in advance for the build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!

Nic Maddinson, the skipper of Melbourne Renegades is the Player of the Match for his match-winning knock of 87 runs from 49 balls. He says that he is proud of his innings. Adds that he was a bit slow to start off, but once he got the hold of the wicket he started to score runs more freely. Tells that it was not about power-hitting, but to find the gaps. Mentions that it would have been nice to score a hundred, but he is happy with the win.

Earlier, Melbourne Renegades were off to a solid start in their batting effort courtesy of their openers. However, once the opening stand was broken, Melbourne Renegades lost their way a bit losing wickets in a clump. Nic Maddinson and Andre Russell decided to take the Power Surge and got going straight away. The skipper led from the front for them with a knock of 87 runs from 49 balls. After the departure of the two set batters, Melbourne Renegades could not score freely and had to settle for a lower total. Their bowlers stepped up for them and successfully defended the total to start their campaign with a win.

In their pursuit of 167, Brisbane Heat were off to a shaky start losing two wickets and scoring just 21 runs in the Powerplay. Colin Munro and Jimmy Peirson resurrected the innings with a 54-run stand but the constantly increasing required run-rate meant both batters had to continue hitting the big shots. Colin Munro's run out of the final ball of the Power Surge put Brisbane Heat in more trouble. Jimmy Peirson took matters into his own hands and did strike a few lusty blows but he too failed to take the game deep as he was dismissed in the 15th over. In the end, Brisbane Heat fell short of the target by 22 runs.

A dominant win for Melbourne Renegades! Akeal Hosein and co. put on a clinical display with the ball to get Melbourne Renegades off to a winning start in BBL 12. Having failed to finish on a high with the bat, the onus was on the bowlers to start well and they certainly did. Akeal Hosein set the tone early with two wickets in his first two overs in the Powerplay. They did not allow Brisbane Heat to recover from that start and kept picking wickets at regular intervals. Melbourne Renegades were put under the pump by Colin Munro and Jimmy Peirson during the Power Surge but they were dismissed soon after to put the game to bed.
