Ash Gardner is in for a quick chat. She says that it's a good feeling and this is something she was looking to do the entire test match. She says that Alana King deserves a five-wicket haul for the way she bowled. She explained the final hour as funny as they were trying really hard and both the batters did bat well to survive. In the end, it all turned out well for the side and that is where they want to focus. She says that the team is really happy with this win.
They finished the game in the final session of Day 3, and completed a well-deserved whitewash. However, the English duo of Lauren Bell and Lauren Filer truly tested the Aussies' patience with a stubborn 68-ball stand that yielded just 14 runs. Bell, in particular, was remarkable, facing 30 deliveries without scoring a single run, a true masterclass in blocking! Ultimately, the Australians' persistence paid off, as they claimed the wicket of Filer to seal the deal and complete a clean sweep of this multi-format series.
Day 3 of the Test match witnessed a dramatic turn of events, as Australia Women were bowled out for 440, with Beth Mooney scoring her maiden Test century, before Sophie Ecclestone claimed five wickets to wrap up the innings. England Women began their second innings cautiously, reaching 30/1 at tea, but Australia's spinners, Ash Gardner and Alana King, then took center stage, dismantling the English batting lineup with six wickets in the second session, leaving England reeling at 117/7, still trailing by 153 runs, and on the brink of a crushing defeat.
England's breakthrough finally came when Ryana MacDonald-Gay bowled Sutherland for 163, but Mooney remained unbeaten on 98, just two runs shy of a century, while Tahlia McGrath provided support. Australia Women's strong batting display has put them in a commanding position, leaving England Women facing a significant challenge to turn the match around.
The Aussies continued their dominance on Day 2 of the day-night Test at the MCG, finishing on a commanding 422/5, with a 252-run lead over England Women. Resuming at 56/1, Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland started cautiously, before Sutherland and captain Alyssa Healy built a steady 71-run stand. Sutherland then combined with Beth Mooney to add a dominant 154 runs, with Sutherland bringing up her third Test century and first at the MCG.
WHITEWASH COMPLETED! Australia Women asserted their dominance from the opening day of this Ashes Test at the MCG, dismissing England Women for 170 before reaching 56/1 at stumps, trailing by just 114 runs with nine wickets in hand. After electing to bowl, Australia made an immediate impact, with leg-spinner Alana King claiming 4/45 to spearhead the bowling effort, supported by Kim Garth and Darcie Brown, who took two wickets each. England's Nat Sciver-Brunt and Sophia Dunkley briefly stabilized the innings with a 50-run partnership, but the Australian bowlers ultimately proved too strong. In response, Australia Women's Phoebe Litchfield and Annabel Sutherland guided their team to a solid 56/1, setting the stage for a promising Day 2.
