The first Test between Zimbabwe and Afghanistan at the Queens Sports Club (QSC) in Bulawayo on December 26 (Thursday) will mark their first Boxing Day Test in 28 years.
To celebrate the occasion, Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) announced on December 25 (Wednesday) that entry to the ground will be free throughout the Test series of which both matches will be played at the same venue.
The second Test beginning January 2nd, will mark the first ever New Year’s Test in Zimbabwe cricket’s history.
The last Boxing Day Test in Zimbabwe was in the year 1996 when they hosted England in Harare.
“This is an extraordinary milestone for Zimbabwe Cricket and our fans,” ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni said in a statement.
“By offering free entry, we want to share this historic occasion with as many cricket lovers as possible, creating an electric atmosphere to inspire our players and celebrate the spirit of the game,” he added.
Afghanistan have already won the ODI series 2-0 and the T20I leg of the tour 2-1. Thus, hosts Zimbabwe would be looking to avenge those losses in this two-match series.
