Yash Dhull makes a sparkling return after heart surgery

Dhull scored a century in Delhi’s first innings against Tamil Nadu in the ongoing round of Ranji Trophy

At the age of 21, when Yash Dhull had to undergo heart surgery for a ‘minor issue’, it was quite a concern that he might not return to his best of forms. However, on his return against Tamil Nadu in Delhi’s second Ranji Trophy clash, Dhull brushed aside any concerns with a dominant century.

Chasing 675 for a first-innings lead, Delhi were in all kinds of concerns at 103/5, but Dhull stood there like a rock, smashing a 197-ball 105, including getting to his century with a six. The right-handed batter remained unbeaten as Delhi could only get themselves to 266. After the day’s play, Dhull revealed how ‘important’ the day was for him.

"This was a very important innings for me because this is after surgery. I have seen a lot. When you come back to playing on such a platform and start a new innings, this is good motivation and a positive sign,” Dhull said after the day’s play, reported ESPNCricinfo.

The 21-year-old also spoke about the surgery and revealed that he learned of the issue during a camp at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) and later had his surgery during the inaugural edition of the Delhi Premier League.

"I got to know it is minor and from birth [congenital]. [But] I am playing at the ground again, this is God's doing. I am blessed. I got to know [of the issue] during a camp at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. This is life. Something or the other happens.

"This was a congenital problem. Normally the surgery happens after birth. Mine has happened very late. That we got to know was very important. Because after the age of 35, this would have harmed. Being back on the field makes me very happy."

Has it changed Dhull’s game style?

"I haven't made any changes. I am focusing on doing what I have always done and I believe in that. This was a very important innings personally. I told to myself that and visualised [what I would do]."
