The Uttarakhand players are yet again leaving their impact on the Women’s Premier League (WPL) Auction after being one of the most consistent sides in the domestic T20 cricket.
After the Delhi Capitals bought Nandini Kashyap for INR 10 lakh, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) shelled out INR 1.2 crore for the leg-spinning allrounder Prema Rawat, who has been an ace spinner for the Uttarakhand team in T20s.
She hails from a small village called Sumti in Bageshwar in Uttarakhand and has been a regular feature for the state team. She was the leading wicket-taker in the Senior Women’s T20 Trophy 2023, picking up 16 wickets in 10 games. Her economy was just 5.55 in the tournament.
Like many other Indian women cricketers, Rawat started playing cricket with boys and is now based in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Her brother, Hemant, and father, Vimal Rawat, used to practice cricket with her, and that’s how she built her base in the game. Gradually, she made her spot in the Uttarakhand women’s side.
She also featured in the inaugural Uttarakhand Women’s T20 League and contributed 38 runs and four wickets in three games.
She’ll probably be Asha Sobhana’s backup in the RCB setup and can be used as the second leg spinner in case the pitch is turning.
