NPL 2024 playoffs within touching distance as Rhinos triumph over Janakpur

Chitwan Rhinos defeated the Bolts by 32 runs, as Kushal Malla led from the front with 72(41) and 2/26

Hassan Eisakhail’s quick start

The Afghan opener was at his destructive best for 19 deliveries at the start of the innings for the Rhinos, and scored 28 courtesy four 4s and a six. They were able to score 44/1 in the powerplay, and as a result Kushal Malla and Ravi Bopara were able to stabilise the innings despite three quick wickets in the next few overs.

Bopara and Malla’s match-defining partnership

Both continued their great run in the competition as a batting pair, and had a 113(67) partnership that helped the Rhinos reach 180/5. Malla was superb with the bat, scoring 72 off just 41. Bopara also scored 44 off 32.

Great powerplay start again by the Rhinos

Sohail Tanvir and Rijan Dhakal were superb in the powerplay with the ball, and the Bolts were 39/3 at the end of 6 overs. They could have only won with a miracle after that, and Jimmy Neesham nearly provided that.

Neesham’s blistering show

Neesham smashed 65 off just 24 deliveries and, in the process, brought up the fastest fifty in NPL in the process. He tonked six 6s and five 4s in his innings that gave the Bolts hope of a miraculous comeback but Tanvir dismissed him in the 15th over.

Malla shines with the ball as well

The Rhinos’s skipper took 2/26 and dismissed Lalit Rajbanshi at the end to close the game for his side and also won the Player of the Match for his all-round performance.
