Deandra Dottin will finally feature in the Women’s Premier League (WPL). She was the first player to be sold in the mini-auction, and the Gujarat Giants acquired her services for INR 1.7 crore. Notably, the Giants had also signed her in 2023 in the inaugural auction for the WPL in 60 Lakh, but released her just a few days before the tournament.
It did cause a small controversy back then, as there was a back-and-forth between Dottin and the franchise regarding her availability.
Dottin, who calls herself the ‘Universe Boss’, had also announced retirement from international cricket in 2022, citing the administration of cricket in the West Indies as one of the reasons behind her quitting.
However, she reversed her decision in the prior to the Women’s T20 World Cup in the United Arab Emirates. She had a very successful campaign, scoring 120 runs with the bat in five innings and five wickets with the ball. Dottin also won the Women's Big Bash League along with the Melbourne Renegades.
The Giants went into the mini auction with the biggest purse of 4.4 crore and, with only four slots to fill, had no qualms in buying her for 1.7 crore. The UP Warriorz gave them a tough fight but backed out right before the last bid, and the Giants acquired the services of one of the most destructive batters in the game, who is great at death with the ball as well.
