We have seen many reasons why play has been stopped in a cricket match, from bee attacks to the brightness of the sun and even a solar eclipse.
However, in the third T20 International (T20I) at the SuperSport Park, Centurion, the play was stopped for over 20 minutes due to flying ants. Yup, you read that RIGHT! FLYING ANTS!!
There was a worry that it could prove fatal if it flew into the players' or the umpires' eyes. The incident took place right after the first over of South Africa's chase after Arshdeep Singh finished his over. Hardik Pandya was set to bowl the over when the umpires decided to walk off. However, at around 11.10 PM IST, play resumed with no overs lost
South Africa were set 220 thanks to a superb unbeaten ton by Tilak Varma. India scored 219/6 in their 20 overs — their highest T20I total in South Africa. Abhishek Sharma, too, redeemed himself with a 25-ball 50.
The four-match series is currently level at 1-1. India went 1-0 up with a comprehensive 61-run victory but lost by three wickets in the next match.
The two teams will clash for one final time in the series in Johannesburg on November 15 (Friday).
