Why LSG and SRH can't retain Mayank and Reddy as uncapped players

The two were named in India’s playing XI for the first T20I against Bangladesh in Gwalior on October 6 (Sunday)

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) won’t be able to retain Mayank Yadav and Nitish Reddy respectively as uncapped players ahead of the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) auction.

The two were named in India’s playing XI for the first T20I against Bangladesh in Gwalior on October 6 (Sunday).

The franchises can retain up to six players ahead of the 2025 auction, but the money will be deducted from their purse, which stands at INR 120 crore.

The six players can be Indian or overseas, but at least one of them has to be uncapped who can be retained at INR 4 crore.

According to the IPL rulebook for the 2025 auction, a player who makes his international debut before October 31 will be considered capped.

Mayank, who can clock 150 KMPH on a regular basis, played only four games for LSG in IPL 2024 before getting injured. But that was enough for him to force everyone to sit up and take notice. Mayank bowled with sheer pace and claimed seven wickets at an average of 12.14.

Meanwhile, Reddy scored 303 runs at an average of 33.66 and a strike rate of 142.92 in IPL 2024 for the SRH. The fast-bowling all-rounder also took three wickets in the tournament.

Harshit Rana, who was part of Kolkata Knight Riders' IPL 2024-winning squad, is also part of India's T20I set-up. If he makes his debut during this series, KKR too will fail to retain him as an uncapped player.
