The South Delhi Superstarz’s left-handed opener, Priyansh Arya, is taking the maiden season of the Delhi Premier League (DPL) by storm. The 23-year-old has smashed 576 runs in eight innings in a high-scoring season. He is the top run-scorer in the tournament, closely followed by Ayush Badoni (515) after Superstarz’s innings in Match 23 against North Delhi Strikers on Saturday (August 31).
Arya walked into this fixture with scores of 107*, 88 and 24. The unbeaten 107 versus Purani Dilli is the first hundred of this tournament. The left-handed batter added to his century count, scoring 120 off 50 balls against North Delhi. He forged a 286-run stand for the second wicket alongside his captain, Badoni (165 from 55 balls). He also struck six sixes in an over, taking on the left-arm spinner Manan Bharadwaj.

Born in January 2001, Arya has already broken into the Delhi team, playing five List A and nine T20 matches for Delhi. Opening in all those nine T20s, he has amassed two fifties, 81 (47) against Tamil Nadu and 51 (24) against Karnataka. Overall, he averages 27.6 at a strike rate of 155 for Delhi. He played two T20s for Delhi in the 2021 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and later seven matches last year, where he rose to prominence as a top-order power hitter.
Arya has also featured for India A U-19 in a quadrangular tournament involving South Africa U-19, Afghanistan U-19 and Indian B U-19. He scored 57 runs in three innings with a top score of 44 against Afghanistan U-19.
He can also bowl part-time right-arm finger spin but is yet to bowl for Delhi.
Given his breathtaking batting show in this DPL season and the upcoming domestic season, Arya can be on the radar of numerous IPL franchises ahead of the upcoming mega-auction. Delhi Capitals (DC) could be one of the front-runners to sign him, given the home connection and his experience playing at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in this tournament. However, he has yet to play at this venue for Delhi.
