What Keeps New Zealand Consistent In ICC Events? Glenn Phillips Answers

They reached the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup 2023 and then won the tri-series in Pakistan before making it to the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

New Zealand and ICC events is a different ball game together. Out of the 13 ODI World Cups, the Kiwis have made it to the last four of nine of them. In the Champions Trophy too, they have made it to the last four of four editions out of nine.

In terms of consistency, the Blackcaps have been very consistent in ODIs in the last two years, making it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cup and then winning the tri-series in Pakistan before making it to the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025

Before they play the semi-final at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on March 5, the Kiwis will be up against India in their last group stage match on March 2 (Sunday) in Dubai.

Glenn Phillips, one of the best players of the Kiwi team, was asked to reveal the reason behind his side’s consistent performance in the ICC events historically and their form in the last two years.

“I think it comes down to our team culture. It's all about giving to each other and, of course, it's bigger than our own. And then I think it also comes down to the boys sticking to their processes individually,” Phillips said in the pre-match press conference on March 1 (Saturday).

He further added, “They put in the work, and they trust me to put in my work and from there we go out there, and I guess we can build that relationship in the field. I guess that builds a great team environment. The results sometimes don't go your way, but I think we've created a nice sort of consistent platform for us to build from.”
